Buy "PHP 5 Advanced: Visual QuickPro Guide" (2nd Edition)

Strange as it may seem, I have little to do with the selling of my own books. In fact, I don’t have any books—print or electronic version—that I can sell directly to you and the publisher does not notify me when books become available in specific formats, countries, or languages. So, in short, the information here may not be the most useful and accurate. That being said, I’d like it if you would buy my books, so here’s what I do know…

Quick Links

Below are quick links to the most common (US and online) places to purchase or read the book.

Amazon.com generally seems to have the best prices but they don’t always pop up with the latest available edition. If you’re not sure which is the newest edition, scroll down (on Amazon’s page for the book in question) to where it says “In-Print Editions”, then click on “Paperback” or “All Editions”. There are many other online places to buy books, of course, and Amazon itself has different online stores for different countries.

Electronic Format

Some, but not necessarily all, of Larry Ullman’s books are made available online in electronic formats (HTML pages, downloadable PDFs, Kindle, etc.). One such resource is Peachpit’s Safari Books Online, which lets you “check out” books online in HTML format (actually, it’s through a Flash application). You can buy and download books in PDF and other formats from eBooks, among other places. Some of Larry Ullman’s books are also in formats accessible for personal readers, such as Amazon’s Kindle. See Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble (for the Nook), eBooks, etc. for those.

Bookstores

Most of my books should also be available in bookstores. Availability and ease of finding the book comes down to how big and well managed the store is (as a person that worked in a bookstore for three years, I’m aware of all the potential pitfalls). If you’re not sure what books of mine a bookstore has or where a book can be found, just ask one of the store’s employees: that’s what they’re there for! Bookstores can also special order books they don’t regularly stock.

Libraries

You can also get my books—for free!—at your local library. Yes, there’s a limit as to how long you can have the book checked out and you can’t make notes in it, but you can’t beat the price, particularly if you’re unsure about whether a book is right for you. If your library doesn’t carry a particular book, you can request that they purchase it (and a big “Thank You!” from me for that) or get it through Inter-Library Loan (ILL).

Translations and Foreign Editions

Most of my books have been translated into anywhere from a couple to a couple dozen languages. Unfortunately I rarely know anything about these. Your best bet is to contact a good bookseller in your country who can find out the availability of a particular book in a particular language. The same goes for foreign editions (e.g., the availability of an English version in the UK or Australia): I never know much about these. Your best bet is to contact a local bookseller or read the book in electronic (online or otherwise) format.

My Book Giveaways!

While I have no books to sell and no electronic versions available, I sometimes get print copies of books that I can give away (I legally can’t sell them). I perform all book giveaways through my newsletter, so subscribe to that if you’re looking for freebies.
