skidz7
A while back Larry posted a blog article describing a move away from MAMP. This was nearly a year ago and I was just curious for Larry & others who are developing on a MAC how that's going. I recently switched to MAC, used XAMPP on PC and, while I have used the mac version now for a while I'm interested in others experiences. At this point I'm looking at: http://blog.liip.ch/archive/2011/04/13/php-5-3-for-os-x-10-6-one-line-installer.html And possibly using virtualhostx. Antonio Conte
Xampp works perfectly on Mac too, but you should no that OSX has PHP installed already. It just needs to be turned of an possibly configured a bit. It's a pretty simple operation, really. Do a quick google search, and your good to go. Larry
If you're coming from Windows and used to using XAMPP (or the like), you may be better off using MAMP or XAMPP (although I think XAMPP is experimental on the Mac). I soured on MAMP, and might be inclined to recommend Bitnami or an alternative. For myself, whose been using Macs for years and is comfortable with *nix systems, going the individual components route makes sense and is preferred. But I'm fine with installing things from the command line, editing Apache configuration files, and so forth. That's not for everyone. And, at the end of the day, you're talking about your development server, so it doesn't have to be flawless, just useable for you.
