“The Yii Book” Now Available

The Yii Book If you like my writing on the Yii framework, you'll love "The Yii Book"!

I am very happy to say that, after much delay, “The Yii Book: Developing Web Applications Using the Yii PHP Framework”, is now available for sale. The book has its own home at yii.larryullman.com.

Everything you need to know should be on those pages, but the most important information is probably:

  • The book is currently in version 0.2, which includes the Introduction and Part 1 (four chapters)
  • The book is available in PDF, epub, and mobi formats.
  • You can pay using Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Diners Club. (I’ll try to get PayPal integrated soon.)
  • I’m going to be continuing to write the book from now until it’s complete, probably in February 2013. I’ll be publishing updates every 2-3 chapters or so. This is my main priority, and with most of the logistics worked out, progress should go faster.
  • Whenever you buy the book, you’ll continue to be able to get free updates as they are released, including a revision for Yii version 2.
  • The minimum price is $20.00, but you can pay anything you want more than that.

I had a “soft opening” yesterday in order to catch bugs (and I did; lousy bugs). I’m happy to say that 23 orders came since yesterday afternoon, averaging $35.39! My thanks to everyone for their interest in the book and to those that have already ordered.

If you enjoyed this post, then please consider following me using your favorite social media, the RSS feed, and/or by subscribing to my newsletter. Or go crazy, and buy one or more of my books . Thanks!

  1. Awesome. Just in time for the True North PHP conference too :) Now lets see how my Kobo likes it.

  2. The only problem that I can see with the publishing strategy for the Yii Book, Larry, is that I can read faster than you can write. I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment. No rest for the weary.

  3. larry is it possible for you to send a free copy for who are in restricted company? I always have problems on paying money because I live in iran and I could not pay the price :(

  4. This is amazing, but Paypal please :)

  5. Hi Larry,

I want to buy your book, it’s looks amazing. When it will be possible to pay with PayPal?

    BR,
    Tom

  6. Hello Larry,
great book, not yet finished but already got good ‘back to basics’ explanations.

I know you’re in the middle (actually at the beginning) of this book, but you should take a look at Appcelerator (Titanium). It’s a great tool to develop mobile native apps for iPhone and Android and more, using javascript. It’s changing fats and growing fast, and I’d definitly love to have your book on this subject too…

Your tutorials helped me a lot for my ongoing Yii project, so I’m happy to payback.

thanks again, keep up the good work.
    Cheers
    Olivier.

    • Thank you very much, Olivier! Thanks for the Appcelerator recommendation. I’ve see that before but have not spent much time on it. I’ll store it in the back of my mind for future consideration.

I’m an old dog (almost 64 yo and 45+ years in programming for mainframes, DOS, ****x, Windows, etc.). I was given the challenge to program my first medium size web app. But the fact is that I need to learn from structured, comprehensive and well founded (and friendly if possible) documentation, something scarce nowadays. You (and Yii) just saved my life, I’m already delivering, and negotiating my next contract… Thanks

  9. I just start to read this book. Even though I read only the first 3 chapter, I feel already that this is an AWESOME book. It really takes me INTO the infrastructure of Yii. Thank you for your book! I am really glad that I find your book!
